Welcome to the first day of the Comics and Stories era. We've been sitting on these songs in recorded version for most of a year, and in their "conceptual" form for in some cases more than a decade before then. Now it is our pleasure - or specifically, that of Daphne, our main composer - to bring you some of the backstory that might enhance your listening. Songs are presented in no particular order.

I’m not, to my own displeasure, a prolific composer or songwriter. Some of my heroes (P. Hammill) can knock out a solo album a year and perhaps a group album as well; others (K. Bush, A. Eldritch) are known for insane levels of perfectionism and refusal to do anything if it can’t be done “properly”. I’m probably in that latter camp. It takes me ages to finish anything to my own satisfaction if I don’t have a deadline.

Parts of this album are very old indeed. The oldest complete song is “Office Work”, which was a “late arrival” for the Magical Internet EP, dating its origin at 2008 or so – more than a decade ago, and as I’ve often said in live renditions, “based on a true incident, called my life”. There's a riff in here which is actually a Gary Numan riff played backwards - see if you can spot it and name the origin.
